SAP System Management
PROLOGUE
In order to explain the relationship between TREX and SAP Solution Manager, I would like to ask you a question first. Can you remember when you last used the search help (F4) in SAP, what you were looking for and above all what the search string looked like? Now, the entitlement admin might have looked like this. Any role for a new key-user in the HCM area, but how exactly was that called? Would you Google the same way? - Not much. The Enterprise Search in Solution Manager 7.2 In the SAP Solution Manager, the SAP Enterprise Search provides a comprehensive full-text search. With only one keyword, you can search centrally for all types of documents in the ITSM and ChaRM, such as incidents or changes, via the Fiori Launchpad. If you have added attachments, they will also be searched for the keyword. At a technical level, a special BOL query object is passed to the Enterprise Search, which passes the HANA database and performs a search. What if you don't use the Solution Manager on SAP HANA? Enterprise Search with TREX 7.1 SAP offers the possibility to use Solution Manager 7.2 on another database (AnyDB), for example DB2 or Oracle. In order to use Enterprise Search (also embedded search) in this case, you need the TREX admin tool. This stands for Text Receival and Information Extraction, which basically describes the functionality of the software. The TREXEngine takes the search text in the form of the Query object and provides an intelligent search of keywords and long texts in previously classified documents. Installation and Usage Tips Run the TREX configuration after the basic configuration of the Solution Manager. In SOLMAN_SETUP you will find the Embedded Search scenario, which is the guide for the configuration. In the Process Management scenario, configure the embedded search using the description. Here the object connectors are created and the indexing jobs are started. Both are required to use the solution documentation in conjunction with other components. If you are installing UNIX, make sure that the shared libraries are up-to-date or that they are initially available.

Following the recommendation of dividing the SAP basis into an application-orientated and infrastructure-related SAP basis [A4], Figure 3 shows a possible presentation form. The SAP-Basis interface function is structured into a SAP basis, which is close to the application and is responsible for coordination and communication with vertical and higher IT specialist and business areas, and a SAP basis close to the infrastructure. The infrastructure-related SAP basis in turn serves as the link between the application-orientated SAP basis and the infrastructure levels. Subject Matter Experts will perform the link task again. In the application-orientated SAP basis, in turn, technology architects are more likely to be placed. The innovation activity or innovation team aspect of the SAP basis is placed at the level of the SAP basis, which is close to the application, because the existing capabilities allow it to assume a leading, also coordinating role and acquire expertise both by adding the SAP basis near the infrastructure and the downstream IT departments. Furthermore, the DISPLAY system variable must be set in order to start the TREX admin tool. Details and a guide to installing the tool can be found here: instguides → SAP NetWeaver → Released 04 → Installation → Cross-NW → Installation Guide Search and Classification TREX.

SAP Basis is the foundation of any SAP system. You can find a lot of useful information about it on this page: www.sap-corner.de.

Regular maintenance tasks or the standard procedures must be described and defined to build checklists based on them and to control compliance with this standard. The SAPSolution-Manager can also support this as a tool of SAP e.g. through the Guided Procedures. In this context, it is also necessary to document the functionality of an underlying application and thereby determine what testing and monitoring activities are necessary. This is a reconciliation process between the SAP basis, other IT departments and, if necessary, the business areas concerned. The defined standard and the system's IST situation must be fully documented and regularly checked for compliance. This can be done through automated monitoring, validation using tools such as SAP-LVM (Landscape Virtualisation Management) or SAP Solution Manager, as well as manual checklists. Only the regular review of the standards guarantees their compliance. It can also support the regular use of SAP services such as Go-live Checks or Early Watch. Examples of how to standardise procedures are listed here: ・ Naming of system instances and logical hosts, or at least one central registry in a directory service, or LVM or SAP customer portal ・ Centrally starting and stopping systems, such as via the LVM ・ Categorising SAP instances by T-shirt size to define profile standards and cost them.

"Shortcut for SAP Systems" simplifies tasks in the area of the SAP basis and complements missing functions of the standard.

Another important example is the reading permission for TemSe objects.

As part of its activities, the technology architect does not exercise project management or project management.

So much information... how can you keep it so that you can find it again when you need it? Scribble Papers is a "note box" that makes this very easy.
